To market, to market, in enviro-friendly packaging
Thursday, August 02, 2007
Ladybird Organics has just launched a unique range of organically-farmed salads. What makes them so unique?
Apart from being organically grown, these salads are packaged using the very latest in bio-degradable materials. Each bag or box of crunchy goodness is entirely environmentally-friendly from the inside out!
The pre-pack bags are made of poly lactic acid (PLA),
which is derived from corn resin, a renewable resource. The material is
bio-degradable, meaning it breaks down simply and quickly so does not
contribute to landfill or pollution. Traditional plastic packaging can take
many, many years to break-down.
“Apart from the environmental benefits, this
new-generation packaging improves shelf life dramatically,“ adds Steve. “In
fact, PLA packaging increases the product life by around 30%. It’s a genuine
case of nature working with nature.”
Launched nationally through Coles Supermarkets and Macro
Wholefoods Stores and more regionally through independent supermarkets such as Foodworks and IGA and good
food stores, the Ladybird Organics pre-packaged salad range is already finding
a ready demand. Varieties include: Salad Mix, Wild Rocket and Baby Spinach and
consumers will be pleased to learn the product is triple-washed prior to
packaging.
The PLA packaging has resolved a big issue in the organics
industry. Steve explains, “In the past, organics has struggled to break beyond
the smaller producer ceiling, partly because of inappropriate packaging. It
didn’t make sense to protect clean, green, chemical-free produce in packaging
made from environmentally harmful plastic products. Producers weren’t happy.
Consumers weren’t happy. PLA lets us offer the market a complete solution
inspired by the principles of clean and green that have inspired the organics
revolution.” Learn more from our packaging
